   Bought this in Australia, rides well, and I’m 6 foot 5 inches tall. Finally a penny farthing my partner can ride safely. Upgraded the rim tape from rubber strip to cloth tape. Fills out my mini penny farthing collection nicely, now have a 36, 29, and 20 inch mini penny farthings. All good for a bit of fun.

   I’ve always fancied the idea of riding a Penny Farthing and when I saw one on the UDC website which was a neat size I jumped at the chance. The package arrived less than 24 hours later. The two delivery guys were a bit bemused, but then they always are. As with all my previous purchases from UDC, the Penny Farthing was packed well and shipped in a rugid box. My first impressions after unboxing are that it is a good build and feels very solid. The instuctions come in the form of a QR code and the camera on my smart phone recognised the code instantly and directed me to the UDC website which I thought was pretty nifty. I didn’t really need the instructions but I wasn’t sure which way to put the seat fittings on so had to look at the online diagram to get it right. It took me over an hour to assemble the Penny because I dropped the seat and the parts went everywhere. So if you buy this Penny, keep the seat parts together and don’t be tempted to turn the seat bolt the other way around. The bolts on the seat are fiddly to tighten so you’ll need an open ended spanner and lots of strength. I thought I had tightened the bolts sufficiently, but they worked loose when I was about half a mile from home and the seat fell backwards. So I had to push my Penny back home and get someone stronger to tighten the bolts. That’s done now so I don’t think that will be a problem again. So make sure you have those bolts as tight as can be. The handlebars went in easily, need to tighten well or they too will come lose after a few minutes. Fitting the back wheel was a doddle. I’ve put custom folding pedals on my Penny but the stock ones are of a good quality. So after a few days of riding I can honestly say I love my new Penny. The seat is somewhat solid and I have a bit of a sore bum so I’ll be wearing cycle shorts from now on. I also need to buy a bell. It rides lovely on tarmac but it can also cope with gravel paths better than I thought it would. I’m 5’2″ and it fits me just right. My leg length is 29″ so I can step safely off the back when it gets tricky. I was scared to go downhill at first but now I’m getting the hang of it. Looking forward to 36″ version 🙂
